Massage and Motor Vehicle Accident Injuries

Massage helps relieve pain and discomfort from car accidents!

Most of us have been rear-ended at some point in our lives and many go on to experience pain and discomfort as a result of the accident. Strains, sprains and whiplash (a type of neck sprain/strain) are all common injuries from car accidents and are often treated with massage. In fact, it's a fantastic way to tackle so many of the issues you may be experiencing after a car accident.

Massage can:

- Ease pain and inflammation

- Reduce stiffness

- Improve sleep quality

- Decrease headaches

- Help reduce stress

Symptoms of an injury can appear within hours or weeks of an accident. Often, pain and discomfort won't be noticed for a couple of days. However long it takes for symptoms to appear, anyone experiencing pain, discomfort, or any other issues after a car accident should seek prompt medical attention. 

During your visit with your doctor (or urgent care, chiropractor, etc.) you may be prescribed massage as treatment for your injuries. If you have Personal Injury Protection (PIP) as part as your auto insurance policy, prescribed massage is covered by your auto insurance. What's that mean to you? It means you don't have to pay anything or deal with bills. We'll work with your auto insurance provider directly so that you can focus on getting back into tip-top shape!

Things you'll need to bring in to your first appointment at TouchWorks:

-Original prescription/referral for massage

-Name of your auto insurance provider

-Your claim number (and any other info you may have regarding the claim)

-Name of the insurance adjuster working on your claim

-Date of the accident

Do You Accept Health Insurance?

Yes, we work with most major health insurance companies. Check with your insurance company to see if your specific plan covers massage. You can also check to see if we're in network (currently, only Rachel Joyce accepts insurance) for you. It's handy if you know what your co-pay is too (if you have one). When you come in, make sure you bring your insurance card with you, because we'll need the information on it to bill your insurance. Questions? Do You Have a Cancellation Policy?

Yes, TouchWorks has a cancellation policy. To view our cancellation policy in full, click on the Client Forms tab at the top of this page. There you can print both the cancellation policy and the Client Information forms (you'll need to fill out for your first appointment).

Key things to remember:

-12 hour notice is required to cancel/reschedule your appointment without being charged a fee of $20

-Any client who is more than 15 minutes late to an appointment will need to be rescheduled

-Late arrivals (within the first 15 minutes) may have their massage end at the scheduled time, depending on the therapist's schedule. The client will be responsible for the cost of the full session.

How Many Massages Can We Do At Once?

Currently, we have one massage room, so we can do one massage at a time. Unfortunately, the room is not big enough for couples massage. We often do two massages back-to-back for clients who come in together, so if you'd like to do that, we're happy to accommodate. There is a coffee shop just down the street and we have plenty of magazines, so you won't get bored waiting for your turn!

Do I Need To Fill Out Any Paperwork Before My Appointment?

If you are a new client, yes. You'll need to complete a client information form and sign our cancellation policy. You can print complete the forms from home--just don't forget to bring them with you to your appointment! If you'd rather, you can complete the form in the office before your appointment. Just make sure you arrive ten minutes early to keep your massage on-time.

An accurate and thorough health history is essential, so please take your time with the paperwork and expect to be asked a few questions. It's for your safety and comfort. There are some health conditions that require a different approach during massage. And some (but few) health conditions prevent a person from receiving a massage at all. So please be honest and detailed in your answers.

Note: There is additional paperwork for clients receiving prescribed massage for motor vehicle accident injuries. Please arrive a minimum of ten minutes early to complete the necessary forms.
